Co-Founder Clunes Outdoors & Picture Framer
Opening a camping shop in winter is tricky. But camping in late Autumn is one of my best memories. My husband and Clunes co-founder took me camping in late May long before we got married.
Taking an inner city London girl out into the bush, was a bold move, but paid off. We went out to the Yarra Valley in our old 70 series Land Cruiser (also my first car ever!) and went hooning up and down mountains and ridge lines.
It was the first time this London girl had made her own fire pit and had a morning bath in the mountain stream next to the first swag she slept in.
In the spirit of Clunes, I was thinking about that trip and what would have made it even more amazing. Getting stock for the new shop, the Waverley Mills Blankets were one of my favourites and definitely would have kept us warm on our wild 4x4 journey.
I love the story behind the blankets, that they are made from recycled Merino wool from offcuts and seconds in the oldest and last working wool mill in Tasmania. Not only are they beautiful object that will become loving family hand me downs, but they are also proudly Australian made pieces that consider their impact, endeavouring to reuse and recycle. Truly wonderful.
